Style at 60+

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

I hate to admit it, but I just turned 61. It's so hard for me to believe that I'm this age, but those reminders crop up from time-to-time: high school reunions, physical ailments keeping us from doing what we want to do, weight changes, the death of a parent.

My perspective on fashion and style has always been defined by looking good. I have always wanted whatever I wear to flatter my body type and look good on me, even in my jobs where I was required to wear a uniform.

I can see that my style has evolved over the years. In my twenties, thirties, and forties, I know I shopped a lot to find the latest and greatest that would look good on me. I think I've always had a very full closet and drawers.

Now I'm past my fifties and now in my sixties, my perspective has shifted a bit. Although I've maintained a healthy weight for a petite person, because our bodies change as we enter the "twilight :(" years, I'm anticipating not being able to wear some styles. Maybe that's the wrong take, but even with caring for myself, I want to make sure that what I have will be good for the long haul. This means I'm rethinking anything that might show too much skin (e.g., halter type garments, anything strapless, minis, etc.). I still want formfitting and flattering, nothing baggy, probably sleeves over sleeveless in case my arms aren't as toned. These are the criteria that are first and foremost now as I shop.

Just because I'm 60+, doesn't mean I want to dress "old." I still want to look great. Except for anything that may show too much skin, I don't think my style will undergo any drastic changes. I'll probably think a little more about comfort while still looking stylish...

I’d love to hear from my 60+ peers out there...
